Thanks to Technology, our world has changed. If you’ve ever felt frustrated, confused, or angry about what technology is doing to your kids, you aren’t alone. With the youngest generations, technology is no longer a tool, it's an appendage. Technology is where your kids spend their free time, build their social status, create personas, and create achievement. Spending this much time with technology is changing them, and we need to be ready with a response. In this session on how help your students develop a healthy relationship with technology we will discuss:
- Why technology and social media in particular has become so powerful - The effect technology is having on us, our culture, and on our kids - Scientific approaches to parenting our kids through this issue - Biblical values for “the good life” and how we can help our kids find it

NCCS Athletics Announces New Softball Coaches
North Cobb Christian School is excited to announce new coaching leadership for the Middle School and Varsity Softball Program for the Fall 2017 season.
Emily Wright has accepted the position as Head Varsity Softball coach after three seasons as Head Coach for the Middle School team. She compiled a 24-15 record during that time while developing key players and a winning culture for NCCS. Coach Wright took over the Middle School program which had not won a game the previous year. Under her coaching, the Middle School Softball team has competed for the Metro Championship the past two seasons, with two second place finishes.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be entrusted with the responsibility of serving as the Varsity Softball head coach,” says Coach Wright. “I see so much untapped potential within the program, and am eager to begin working together to see that potential come to fruition.”
NCCS has also announced Jeremy Hawkins as the Head Middle School Coach, taking over for Coach Wright. Coach Hawkins served as the Middle School Assistant Coach this past season and was crucial to the team returning to the Metro Championship. With an eye on building a softball program and a focus on continuity, Coach Wright and Coach Hawkins will be working in tandem to develop and teach players to contribute at each level for the Eagles Softball Program.
“I am proud of what the girls accomplished last year and believe the standard has been set for the Middle School Program,” says Coach Hawkins. “Our program will be set up for the future and I can’t wait to begin working on a championship season.”
Keith Bollinger, North Cobb Christian School Athletic Director, applauds the dynamic approach that Coach Wright is using to build a softball program that is being developed to be sustainable and successful. “We are taking a proactive approach to building our softball program,” says Bollinger. “Coach Wright and Coach Hawkins both understand that we need to have a consistent message for our girls on each level and have displayed great coaching relationships that will be felt from Middle School to Varsity.”
The softball coaching staff will be rounded out with Coach Nate Rupp, who has been the assistant JV Baseball Coach/Assistant Varsity Softball Coach for 2016-2017, and Coach Jimmy Keane, current Head Varsity Baseball Coach. These coaches will have involvement in both the Middle School and Varsity levels, assisting the Head Coaches as needed.
The future is bright for our NCCS Softball program! Go, Lady Eagles!

Orchestra & Band Students Attend Atlanta Symphony Performance
Fourth grade orchestra and band students were delighted by the music of the award-winning Atlanta Symphony Orchestra last Wednesday as they traveled on a musical field trip to Lassiter High School Performance Hall. Students learned how musical composers used elements of music like Dynamics, Tempo, Timbre, Tonality and Texture to give musical representation to animals and stories. They heard the sounds of Bumble Bees right in the auditorium as the ASO played Flight of the Bumblebee by Rimsky-Korsakov, Double basses sounding like an elephant in The Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens, the story of a boy and his cat - I Bought Me A Cat by Aaron Copeland and finished with Peter and The Wolf by Sergei Prokofiev. To top off the awesome day, students had lunch at the Varsity where "What'll ya have?" was heard throughout as students enjoyed the delicious and fun food there. Seeds of music were planted deep in the hearts of the students as they listened and experienced the joy of music. Those seeds will hopefully grow as they continue to develop and mature in orchestra and band this year.

Trapping a Leprechaun!
RISE students are very excited about the new S.T.E.M (Science Technology Engineering and Math) unit. Last week students were challenged to engineer a working device that would trap a Leprechaun. Students Claire Go and Kate Butler did a wonderful job using their prior knowledge of simple machines to create their trap. Next week students will be given a S.T.E.M. challenge that will “blow their minds” as they study the power of wind.
Bringing the Bible to Life
Last week K5 students reenacted the Bible story about four friends who carried a paralytic man to Jesus and lowered him through the roof. Their lesson emphasized how thankful they are that Jesus wants us to come to Him with all of our needs!
Second Grade Visits New Echota Historical Site
Second grade students traveled back in time to visit New Echota Historical Site on March 22! Cherokee Indian history came to life as students visited missionary Samuel Worchester's home built in 1828, the Council House, the Court House, a middle class farm and house, and saw how the printing press turned the famous Cherokee alphabet into the Cherokee Phoenix newspaper. Students also went to the site where the treaty was signed that ultimately led the Cherokee to leave their land and move west. Allie Contreras from Ms. Romine's class said, "My favorite part was going into the missionaries' house and seeing where the guests stayed." As students dive deeper into learning about Georgia, they especially enjoyed seeing the history that is in our own backyard!

NJHS Service Project
The National Junior Honor Society, led by Nate Watson, Alli Stroud, Caroline Cunningham, and Rylee Tate, dedicated their club time recently to clear the Cross Country trails. Though there was excessive mud and branches, NJHS cleaned up so that our runners can now practice without the threat of a rolled ankle due to debris on that trail. The NJHS club will continue to serve the school and community during their club time throughout the rest of the school year. Go Eagles Cross Country!

Environmental Science Classes Visit Butler Creek Watershed
Environmental Science classes took a field trip in our own backyard this past week. The Corp of Engineers property is part of the Butler Creek Watershed, and the students had the opportunity to learn more about this with an educator from the Watershed Stewardship program, part of the Cobb County Water System. Students first learned about the different macroinvertebrates that are part of Georgia's waterways and indicators of a healthy stream, then moved to the creek to see which of those things they could find. They are happy to report that our part of Butler Creek is healthy and they had some great finds - dragonfly larva, midge fly larva, and a freshwater clam were all present, as well as beaver and deer tracks nearby. All of these indicate a well-functioning ecosystem in our area! The Watershed Stewardship program has some excellent educational information as well as various volunteer opportunities. If you are interested in learning more about things you could do to participate for community service hours, contact Mrs. Epp for details.
